The Profile of a Personal Life Coach
I began my life at a very young age, and probably, very much like you, by the time I was able to realize it, my process of being house-broken was already well under way. So, here I was at a young and tender age being molded into shape by those in my life who knew nothing about what I wanted or even what would make me truly happy. That’s understandable. At that point in my life, I didn’t know either! They were putting into place "programs" in my little developing computer that would become the software of my life, and I didn’t even know it was happening!
My Early World
So there I was—being shaped by my experiences and all those around me who, of course, knowing better than I (because they told me that they did know better than I), were creating the round hole into which this square peg (me) had to fit. Now, that wouldn’t have been so bad, except that in the depths of my being, I knew I didn’t fit! However, I didn’t see any way out—remember, my little computer was now well programmed. Relatively, I had no power. So I buckled down and mostly, did what I was told, delivered what was expected, and tried to stay in harmony with "my world." Now there were times of course where doing what I was told just didn’t fit in my life. It was so clear, so tangible to me I could almost taste it. As I began to awaken to my own personal power, to the possibility of making my own choices, to the possibility of living a life that did fit, to the possibility of living a life I would love to be living, I began to discover, that life could work.
Up to My Neck
However, I still had these programs, this software belonging to others installed in my computer. So, in the first part of my life, I followed the program of success dictated by the world by which I was surrounded—education; raising a family; being a good provider. Then as my personal power began to unfold, I seized an opportunity and at great risk, entered the world of business. Over time, I became a successful international entrepreneur, operating on three continents. In fact I became so successful at business, that it became an addiction. Like a drug, it became my entire life. It was so much so, that everything in my life was out of balance. The pre-programmed software was whirling out of control. So was my life and frankly, so was I. In fact, "I" (the real "me") was nowhere to be found.
I was one of the lucky ones. Circumstances (at least this is how I will refer to it) conspired such that a hole in time opened in my life. Just a couple of days—a weekend in fact. But whatever happened, I awakened just enough that I could clearly see that whatever my life was, it was not working for me. Wherever it was then heading, it was not going to work any better in the future than it did in the past. This realization fell on me like a brick wall! However, at the same instant I felt crushed, I felt free. In a brief instant, the possibility of unlimited possibility opened into my consciousness and I realized that if I had the courage to reach out and recover my power, to weed out with discrimination the programs that bound me to a life that was not truly mine, I could at once be free, in control of my life, and authentically happy.
Free at Last?
Fifteen years ago, forsaking all I had accumulated in the world, I set out to find the answers to the burning questions in my being. Who am I? What should my life be? What could my life be? How could I find lasting health, peace, and authentic happiness? My journey took me to live in some of the earth’s most sacred places, where I had the honor to study with some of the world’s most enlightened teachers. In India, Africa, Nepal, Tibet, and China, I learned many of the ancient secrets of life and living as they knew them. Eventually I was empowered to return to America and teach what I had learned. No longer consumed by materiality, my life was now dedicated to helping others as I had been helped. Having had the extraordinary good fortune to study and live in the world’s great cultures, spiritual traditions and philosophies in my personal search for meaning in my own life have prepared me in uncountable ways to serve now as a Chaplain and reach out to those in need of support. My journey has taken me into hospice care with those suffering in end-of-life transitions, and into the hospital emergency room environment, where many suffer the fear and anxiety of unexpected trauma.
One common, recurring theme since very early in my life is that I have been sought out for advice, counsel, and help by all sort and manner of people. Especially in difficult, even crisis times, family, friends, neighbors, workmates, and many who just seem to arrive ask for advice and counsel to help live their lives more fully, more powerfully, more completely. Those who came encouraged those they cared about to seek me out—and so it continues. I had a reputation even then of helping others to realize their fullest potential. Finally recognizing that helping others recover their birthright, reclaim their personal power, rekindle the flame of authentic happiness in their lives was indeed my mission in life, I began Life Works and Personal Life Coaching to continue to serve in this way. By way of being better able to serve you, I coach and network internationally with others who are practicing and teaching Life Coaches. This ongoing interaction and learning is just one way in which I honor my commitment to you to bring you the best quality of coaching that I can deliver.
My Hard Won Lesson
One thing I learned in this game of life is that you can excel and win the game simply. You need not travel to the ends of the earth. You need not spend half a lifetime on the wrong course. You need not suffer in silent desperation, knowing you are not living the life you want. There are answers and they are here and now. There is help and it is as close as your telephone.
If you wanted to go to a place you had never been before, it would be very helpful to have directions. It would be extremely useful to have a map, and it would be invaluable to have a traveling companion who had been there before and knew the road very well.
